🔥 1. Inflation क्या है? (Fundamentals)
📌 Definition

  • Value of Money: Inflation
😢 Creditors (Lenders) —
😊 Debtors (Borrowers) —
Real Interest Rate = Nominal Interest Rate − Inflation Rate
Nominal Rate = 10%, Inflation = 6% → Real Rate = 4% only।
💸 2. Fisher's Quantity Theory of Money
👨‍🔬 Irving Fisher

MV = PT
Variables
  • M = Money Supply (पैसे की मात्रा)
  • V = Velocity of Money
  • P = Price Level (कीमत का स्तर)
  • T = Transactions (लेन-देन की संख्या)
Theory

🖨️ Seigniorage (Inflation Tax)

Why "Tax"?

📊 3. Types of Inflation (Intensity
1. Creeping Inflation (रेंगती महंगाई)
2. Walking Inflation (चलती महंगाई)
3. Running Inflation (दौड़ती महंगाई)
Rate: 10–20% | Strong monetary intervention की ज़रूरत। Economy पर serious असर।
4. Galloping Inflation (सरपट महंगाई)
5. Hyper Inflation (अति महंगाई)
Rate: >100% | Prices uncontrollably skyrocket। Currency practically worthless। Examples: Venezuela, Zimbabwe।
Creeping = Healthy (3-4%), Walking = Warning (4-10%), Running = Dangerous (10-20%), Galloping = Very Dangerous (20-100%), Hyper = Economy Collapse (>100%)। यह sequence याद रखें।
⚙️ 4. Causes of Inflation (Demand Pull vs Cost Push)
FeatureDemand Pull InflationCost Push Inflation
(Supply side)
Key Phrase"Too much money chasing too few goods"Factors of Production की cost बढ़ना
Triggered byStrong economic growth, Govt. spending, Exports बढ़नाWages बढ़ना, Raw material महंगा होना, Indirect taxes
🛢️ Imported Inflation (आयातित महंगाई)

📏 5. Measurement of Inflation — WPI, CPI, PPI
Inflation Rate = [(Current Year Index − Previous Year Index) ÷ Previous Year Index] × 100
Price Index = (Cost of Market Basket in Current Year ÷ Cost in Base Year) × 100
🏭 Wholesale Price Index (WPI) —

  • Services: ❌ WPI में शामिल नहीं — only goods।
  • Publishing Body: Office of Economic Adviser (OEA) — Ministry of Commerce & Industry।
  • Base Year: 2011-12 (Upcoming: 2022-23)।
  • Frequency: Monthly।

WPI Basket Weightage:

Manufactured Goods
64.2% — Highest weight
Primary Articles
22.6%
Fuel & Power
13.5%
🛒 Consumer Price Index (CPI) —

Common man की cost of living reflect करता है।

  • Publishing Body: National Statistical Office (NSO) — Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoSPI)।
  • Base Year: 2012 (Upcoming: 2024)।
  • Used By: RBI uses CPI (Combined) for inflation targeting and monetary policy।

CPI Basket Weightage:

Food & Beverages
45.8% — Highest (सबसे ज़्यादा)
Housing
10%
Fuel & Power
6.8%

Four Types of CPI:

CPI TypeTarget GroupPublished ByBase Year
CPI-IWIndustrial WorkersLabour Bureau (Min. of Labour)2016
CPI-ALAgricultural LabourersLabour Bureau (Min. of Labour)1986-87 (2019)
CPI-RLRural LabourersLabour Bureau (Min. of Labour)1986-87 (2019)
CPI (Combined)Rural + Urban (General)NSO (MoSPI)2012 (2024)
🏭 Producer Price Index (PPI) —

  • Perspective: CPI = buyer's perspective। PPI = seller's (producer's) perspective
  • Stages Tracked: Raw materials → Intermediate goods → Finished products।
Wheat (WPI) → Flour mill (WPI) → Atta packet at Kirana store (CPI)।
📰 6. Headline Inflation vs Core Inflation
📰 Headline Inflation
CPI पर based raw inflation figure
Scope: Basket की सभी items — Food, Energy सब included।
यह common consumer की daily life को directly affect करती है।
News में "Inflation X% है" = Headline Inflation।
🔩 Core Inflation
Scope: Stable, structural price trends।
Core Inflation = Headline Inflation − Volatile Inflation (Food + Fuel)
🏭 7. Index of Industrial Production (IIP)
📌 Definition

IIP = Production का volume/growth measure करता है।
  • Publishing Body: National Statistical Organisation (NSO) — MoSPI।
  • Base Year: 2011-12 (Upcoming: 2022-23)।
  • Significance: Manufacturing, Mining और Electricity sector की health gauge करता है।
⭐ Eight Core Industries (8

🛢️ Refinery Products — Highest Weightage (imported crude oil पर depend)
⚡ Electricity
🔩 Steel
⚫ Coal
🛢️ Crude Oil
💨 Natural Gas
🏗️ Cement
🌱 Fertilizers — Lowest Weightage
8 Core Industries की order याद करें: "Refinery, Electricity, Steel, Coal, Crude Oil, Natural Gas, Cement, Fertilizers" — Trick: RESCC NGCf
🌀 8. Special Types & Dynamics of Inflation

Example: Year 1 = 10% → Year 2 = 8% → Year 3 = 5% — prices

Why is it BAD? — Low prices sound good, लेकिन deflation = shrinking economy।

📉 Phillips Curve

📈High Inflation
= Low Unemployment
📉Low Inflation
= High Unemployment
3️⃣ Stagflation (ठहराव + महंगाई) = Stagnation + Inflation

Paradox: High Inflation + Low Economic Growth (Stagnation) + High Unemployment —

Why Unique?

Lays chips का packet — same price ₹20, लेकिन अंदर chips कम और air ज़्यादा। Pepsi का bottle 320ml से 250ml — price same।
5️⃣ Bottleneck Inflation / Structural Inflation

Cause: Labor shortage, raw material scarcity, या shipping delays।

Vegetable buyers बहुत affect हुए — rest of economy ठीक था।

8️⃣ Inflationary Gap (स्फीतिक अंतराल)

Result: Factories और labor already full capacity पर हैं — extra demand more production नहीं बना सकती, सिर्फ prices push करती है। Economy "Overheating" होती है।

Solution: Taxes बढ़ाना या Government spending घटाना — market को "cool down" करना।

9️⃣ Inflation Targeting (भारत में)

Lower band = 2%, Upper band = 6%।

🌍 9. Great Depression vs Great Recession
😰 Great Depression (1929–1939)
Cause: Stock Market Crash (USA, 1929)।
एक severe global economic downturn।
Features: High unemployment, extreme poverty, drastic reduction in industrial production और trade।
Great Depression में USA में unemployment 25% पहुँची। Great Recession में Lehman Brothers जैसे banks collapse हुए और India की IT companies के orders cancel हुए।
💼 10. Unemployment (बेरोज़गारी) — Fundamentals
📌 Definition

Unemployment = वह situation जहाँ एक person actively काम ढूंढता है लेकिन employment नहीं मिलती।

India में unemployment data National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) collect करता है।

📐 NSSO के 3 Measurement Approaches
ApproachReference PeriodExplanation
Usual Status Approach365 days (1 Year)पूरे साल के आधार पर employment status।
Current Weekly Status (CWS)1 Week
Current Daily Status (CDS)Each day of weekहर रोज़ के activity status पर based — most comprehensive
🗂️ 11. Types of Unemployment (बेरोज़गारी के प्रकार)
1. Structural Unemployment (संरचनात्मक बेरोज़गारी)

Job है — but skill nahi।
2. Educated Unemployment (शिक्षित बेरोज़गारी)

3. Frictional Unemployment (घर्षण बेरोज़गारी)

Also Known As: Search Unemployment, Voluntary Unemployment।

4. Disguised Unemployment (प्रच्छन्न बेरोज़गारी)

Extra workers की Marginal Productivity = Zero।

5. Cyclical / Economic Unemployment (चक्रीय बेरोज़गारी)

6. Seasonal Unemployment (मौसमी बेरोज़गारी)

Farmers: सिर्फ sowing और harvesting season में काम → बाकी time unemployed।
7. Classical / Real Wage Unemployment

Minimum wage ₹500/day set
8. Natural Unemployment (प्राकृतिक बेरोज़गारी)

Definition: एक healthy economy में lowest sustainable level of unemployment जो बिना inflation बढ़ाए exist कर सकता है।

Concept: Even in a booming economy, Frictional

Natural Unemployment = Frictional + Structural।
👷 12. Marginal Worker vs Main Worker
FeatureMarginal WorkerMain Worker
Job SecurityLow / IrregularRelatively Stable
ExamplesLandless agricultural laborers, low-wage casual workersConstruction workers (seasonal लेकिन long-term projects), independent contractors
183 days = Cut-off।
