🏛️ 1. National Income क्या है? (Fundamentals)
📌 Definition
National Income = एक country के residents (nationals) द्वारा एक specific period (usually financial year) में produce किए गए सभी final goods और services का total monetary value।
📅 Financial Year (India)
Financial Year के basis पर।
Period:
1st April → 31st March
"Annual Financial Statement"
🔄 Macro vs Micro
📜 2. Historical Evolution of National Income in India
👴 Dadabhai Naoroji — Pioneer of National Income in India
- First Estimation: National Income concept India में Dadabhai Naoroji ने introduce किया।
- Book: "Poverty and Un-British Rule in India" — जिसमें उन्होंने Drain Theory दी।
- Drain Theory: British colonial rule India की wealth drain कर रही है।
- East India Association (1866) — London में establish किया।
- Newspaper: Rast Goftar publish किया।
🏛️ Political Legacy
- First Asian to become a member of the British Parliament।
- Indian National Congress के 3 sessions presided किए (famous 1906 Calcutta session सहित)।
📊 P.C. Mahalanobis — Institutionalization of National Income
- National Income Committee (1949): Independence के बाद formal data collection के लिए committee बनी — chaired by P.C. Mahalanobis।
- Title: "Father of Statistics in India"।
- ISI: Indian Statistical Institute establish किया।
- Second Five-Year Plan: India का 2nd Five-Year Plan Mahalanobis Model पर based था।
🔬 V.K.R.V. Rao — Scientific Approach
तीनों names exam में बहुत आते हैं — Dadabhai Naoroji = First/Pioneer। Mahalanobis = Committee 1949 + Father of Statistics। V.K.R.V. Rao = Scientific approach।
🔄 3. Circular Flow of Income
📌 Concept
The Cycle (चक्र):
1
Households → Firms को Factor Services (Land, Labour, Capital) provide करते हैं।
↓
2
↓
4
Firms → Households को Factor Payments देते हैं (Wages, Rent, Interest, Profit)।
Factors of Production → Factors of Payment:
🌾Land
Rent (किराया)
👷Labour
Wages (मज़दूरी)
🏦Capital
Interest (ब्याज)
💡Entrepreneurs
Profit (लाभ)
Economic Models of Flow (3 Types):
2-Sector Model
Simple Economy
Only:
Households + Firms
No government, no foreign trade
3-Sector Model
+ Government Added
Households + Firms + Govt
Taxes, Subsidies, Transfer payments
4-Sector Model
+ Rest of World
+ Foreign Sector
Exports (X) & Imports (M) included
आपका salary = Households को Wages (payment from Firm)। आपने उससे grocery खरीदी = Consumption Expenditure (payment to Firm)।
💉 4. Injections vs Leakages (Economy
I — Investment: Businesses का capital goods पर spending।
G — Government Spending: Public services, defense, infrastructure।
T — Taxes: Government को compulsory payments।
✅ Injections > Leakages → Economy Grows / Expands
❌ Leakages > Injections → Economy Contracts / Slows Down
Injections = I, G, X (IGX याद रखें)। Leakages = S, T, M (STM याद रखें)।
📐 5. Methods of Calculating National Income (3 Methods)
📦 Method 1: Value Added Method (Production / Output Method)
Value Added = Value of Output − Intermediate Input (Consumption)
GVA = GVA₁ + GVA₂ + GVA₃ + … GVAₙ
Cotton-Shirt Chain Example (Double Counting avoid करना):
| Stage | Output Value | Input Used | Value Added (VA) |
| 🌾 Cotton | ₹100 | ₹0 | ₹100 |
| 🧵 Yarn | ₹200 | ₹100 | ₹100 |
| 🪡 Cloth | ₹400 | ₹200 | ₹200 |
| 👕 Shirt | ₹800 | ₹400 | ₹400 |
| TOTAL | ₹1,500 ❌ (Wrong) | — | ₹800 ✅ (Correct) |
💰 Method 2: Income Method (Distribution Side)
Production के Factors of Production (Land, Labour, Capital, Entrepreneur) द्वारा earn की गई सभी incomes sum करता है।
National Income = Compensation of Employees + Operating Surplus + Mixed Income
Components:
- Compensation to Employees: Workers को दी गई total wages/salaries।
🛒 Method 3: Expenditure Method (Disposition Side)
Most common method है।
GDP = C + G + I + (X − M)
C — Consumption Expenditure:
Households का goods & services पर spending।
G — Government Spending:
Public expenditure — Defense, Roads, Salaries।
I — Investment Expenditure:
Businesses का capital goods पर spending (Machinery, Infrastructure)।
(X−M) — Net Exports:
X = Exports (foreign buyers से आया पैसा)।
M = Imports (बाहर गया पैसा — subtract होता है)।
आपने grocery खरीदी (C) + Government ने नई road बनाई (G) + Tata ने नई factory लगाई (I) + India ने software export किया (X) − China से goods import किए (M) = India का GDP।
📦 6. Final Goods vs Intermediate Goods
| Feature | Final Goods | Intermediate Goods |
| Usage | Personal consumption या investment के लिए | Other goods produce करने के लिए input |
| Demand Type | Direct consumption / capital investment | Further processing या resale |
🎯 Key Insight: Same good — different context
Tea (hotel में sell करने के लिए) = Intermediate Good। Context matters!
Types of Final Goods:
1. Consumer Goods (उपभोक्ता वस्तुएं)
Consumer Non-Durables: Immediately consume
Examples: Food, Drinks, Milk।
Consumer Durables: Long time चलती हैं।
Examples: TV, Fridge, AC, Car।
2. Capital Goods (पूंजी वस्तुएं)
Examples: Factory machines, Industrial equipment, Computers in offices।
Example: T-shirt बनाने वाली machine = Capital Good।
⚖️ 7. Stock vs Flow Variables
📦 Stock Variable
एक specific point in time पर measure होने वाली quantity।
Examples: Wealth, Loan, Inventory, Capital, Money Supply
🌊 Flow Variable
एक period of time में measure होने वाली quantity।
Examples: Income, Expenditure, Change in Inventory, Depreciation
आपके bank account में आज ₹1 lakh है = Stock (point in time)। आपकी monthly salary ₹50,000 है = Flow (per month)। Dam में पानी का level = Stock।
GDP = Flow variable (एक year की period में measure)। Capital = Stock variable। यह distinction exam में आता है।
📊 8. Aggregates of National Income (GDP, GNP, NDP, NNP)
GDP developed by: Russian-American economist Simon Kuznets in 1934।
🌍 GDP — Gross Domestic Product (सकल घरेलू उत्पाद)
Key: DOMESTIC = Geography based।
GDP (MP) = C + G + I + (X − M)
🌐 GNP — Gross National Product (सकल राष्ट्रीय उत्पाद)
Key: NATIONAL = Citizens based। Indian in USA की income भी count होगी।
GNP = GDP + Net Factor Income From Abroad (NFIA)
GNP = GDP − Factor Income to Abroad + Factor Income From Abroad
📉 NDP — Net Domestic Product (शुद्ध घरेलू उत्पाद)
Depreciation: Time के साथ capital goods (machines, buildings) की value कम होती है = Depreciation। यह wear and tear है।
NDP = GDP − Depreciation
🌟 NNP — Net National Product (शुद्ध राष्ट्रीय उत्पाद)
NNP = GNP − Depreciation
⭐ National Income = NNP at Factor Cost (NNPFC)
यह India की true National Income है — Net (depreciation adjusted) + National (citizens) + Factor Cost (बिना taxes के)।
All Formulas
| Formula | Result |
| GNP = GDP + NFIA | National से Domestic तुलना |
| NDP = GDP − Depreciation | Net Domestic Output |
| NNP = GNP − Depreciation | Net National Output |
| National Income = NNPFC | True National Income |
🏷️ 9. Market Price vs Factor Cost
🛒 Market Price (MP)
Net Indirect Taxes included।
🏭 Factor Cost (FC)
Factors of Production की actual earning —
Net Indirect Tax
FC = MP − Net Indirect Tax
FC = MP − (Indirect Tax − Subsidy)
Basic Price = FC + Net Production Tax
*Net Production Tax = Production Tax − Subsidy
Petrol pump पर ₹100/litre = Market Price (Tax included)।
📈 10. Real GDP vs Nominal GDP
| Feature | Real GDP | Nominal GDP |
| Price Basis | Constant prices (Base Year की prices) | Current prices (उस साल की prices) |
| Reference | Base year को reference लेते हैं | Current year की prices use होती हैं |
| Inflation | ✅ Inflation adjusted (accurate) | ❌ Inflation adjust
GDP Deflator = (Nominal GDP ÷ Real GDP) × 100
📊 India's GDP — Key Facts
- Calculated By: National Statistical Office (NSO) — Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoSPI)।
- Base Year: 2011-12 (Government committee revise
👤 11. Per Capita Income (प्रति व्यक्ति आय)
📌 Definition
Per Capita Income = National Income ÷ Population
🌍 12. Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) & GDP Rankings
📌 Purchasing Power Parity (क्रय शक्ति समता)
Purchasing Power = एक specific amount of money से कितने goods & services खरीदे जा सकते हैं।
🏆 GDP Rankings (Nominal, 2026):
🏆 PPP Rankings (2026):
India's GDP = 4th Nominal लेकिन 3rd in PPP — USA और China के बाद!
GDP Nominal rank = 4th (India)। GDP PPP rank = 3rd (India)।
💵 13. Personal Income, Disposable Income & Other Concepts
💰 Personal Income (PI) —
PI = NI + Income received but not earned − Income earned but not received
OR
PI = NI + Govt. Transfers + Net Interest paid by Govt. − Corporate Tax − Social Security
PI = NI + Transfer Payment − Undistributed Corporate Profit
Transfer Payments क्या हैं? Government subsidies, Scholarships, Pension — ये income है but कोई production नहीं हुई।
💳 Personal Disposable Income (PDI)
Disposable Income = Personal Income − Tax
🌿 Green GDP
Green GDP = GDP − Environmental Damage
⚡ Potential GDP
Potential GDP − Real GDP = Recessionary Gap
आपकी salary ₹50,000 (Personal Income) + Government scholarship ₹5,000 (Transfer Payment) = ₹55,000 PI।
